62-Day Interest-Free Credit Cards Explained

A new generation of UPI linked credit cards offers up to 62 days of interest free credit. Here is how the window works and how to use it.

What is a 62 day interest free credit card

It is a regular RuPay credit card that links to your UPI handle. Every UPI payment you make is treated as a credit card transaction, and you get up to 62 days to repay it without paying any interest.

How the 62 day window works

The card has a monthly billing cycle. Spends made on day one of the cycle get the full grace period of around 50 to 62 days, depending on the issuer. Spends made just before the cycle closes get the shortest grace period of around 20 days.

To maximise the benefit, time large purchases for the first few days of your billing cycle. Always pay the total outstanding by the due date, never just the minimum amount.

Who should use it

These cards are ideal for anyone already paying via UPI for groceries, fuel, and online orders. Instead of paying instantly from your bank account, you pay through the credit card and keep your savings earning interest for up to two months.

What to watch out for

The grace period collapses the moment you carry a balance to the next cycle. Once you miss a full payment, every new transaction starts accruing interest from day one. Use the card as a free credit tool, not a borrowing tool.

  • Set auto pay for the full statement balance.
  • Track your billing cycle date in a calendar.
  • Avoid cash withdrawals, which never enjoy a grace period.
  • Keep utilization below 30 percent to protect your CIBIL.
